San Diego Chargers offensive tackle Roman Oben receives the Man of the Year award from the Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County.
San Diego Chargers lineman Roman Oben opens holes on the football field and fills them in the lives of San Diego youth. His philanthropic efforts earned him the Man of the Year award from the Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County. The organization chose Oben for his dedication as a Big Brother, commitment to the community and service as a spokesperson for the BBBS agency. The BBBS will present the award to Oben at its 45th annual gourmet dinner. The dinner is the largest fundraiser of the year for BBBS and is served on Nov. 8 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla.
The award raises awareness of the need for positive role models for San Diego youth, as well as the need for additional program participants. Last year's person of the year award winner was James Cimino, Ph.D., of Wells Fargo Bank. –Christine Meade
